February 28, 2026 - In recognition of International Women’s Day on March 8th and the theme “Give to Gain” the Women and Gender Equity Committee (WGE) hosted a Pop Up Market showcasing local Women Entrepreneurs. “Give to Gain” emphasizes the power of reciprocity and support. When individuals, organizations and communities give generously, opportunities and support for women increase.
This event was very successful for its first year and gained a “like” from the Mayor of Toronto, Olivia Chow. Many brothers and sisters from the Local came out to show support. There were games, vendors and many prizes for all. In total the day raised $1400.00 along with donations of clothing, toiletries and hygiene products that will be put back in the community. Donations were given to Dixon Hall which supports children, youth, seniors, as well as housing, shelter and employment services for Toronto’s Downtown East end. WGE plan to make this an annual event that will continue to grow with potential for other towns or cities to host.
