February 17/2006, Thorold Junior B Jaycees honored their champs from 1967-68.  A banner commemorating the team’s accomplishments was raised at the Thorold arena.

The first part of that year did not look too promising for the Jaycees who struggled to a 3-5-2 record and did not get much better in the next month.  Going into the final month of the season the team began to “JELL” and on Feb 8th/68 they blanked the Brantford Foresters 7-0. ( I don’t think Gretzky was playing at that time).  In the post season they eliminated Stamford and the Hamilton Mountain Bs . Unfortunately the Jaycees were eliminated in the first round of the Sutherland Cup playdowns losing to Oshawa who were led by Boston Bruins star Terry O’Reilly.

Al admits they did not have superstars but the team came together when it counted.

Al was a powerful defenseman for the team who did not score a lot of goals but the ones he did score were at crucial times.  Al played most of his hockey locally and grew up in the Vineland area.  He worked for the Beer store for over 30years in many capacities finishing off as a driver helper in Stoney Creek where he retired. Al is enjoying his retirement in St Catharines and has always been involved with the Union. He still volunteers on many occasions at Union functions and has been a great help at all times.

Thanks Al and CONGRATULATIONS
