Time is running out. Take action now to tell the Ontario government you object to the harmful proposal by 7-Eleven to sell beer and alcohol at dozens of its Ontario convenience store locations. Many of these stores have gas bars and a majority are located very close to schools. The store clerks are low-wage employees with little training when it comes to refusing service to intoxicated people and the underaged. The proposal is also a direct threat to UFCW L12R24 members who work at the Beer Store and are trained and committed to serving Ontarians safely.
TAKE ACTION NOW. GO ONLINE TO TELL THE LICENSING COMMISSION
YOU OBJECT TO 7-ELEVEN’S HARMFUL PROPOSAL.
Here’s what to do:
-
Go to: https://www.iagco.agco.ca/prod/pub/en/Default.aspx?PossePresentation=PublicNoticeSearch
-
Under “Category” select “Liquor”; Under “Applicant” type “7-Eleven” (NOT “7-11”)
-
Find the store(s) nearest you and click on “File Objection / Submission” and enter the
anti-spam initials on the screen (similar to ‘captcha’)
-
Fill out the contact information (anonymous submissions aren’t counted as an objection)
-
In “Details” field, give them a few pointers on why your think it’s a bad idea (there’s some points to consider below*).
-
You can also upload photos or map images (from Google Maps street view) that indicate how close the store you’re objecting to is located to schools, parks, etc. and whether they also have a gas bar (which can encourage drunk driving)
-
Click “Submit”
NOTE: THE DEADINE TO OBJECT IS MARCH 11. You can object to more than one location. Please encourage your friends and family members to also file objections to locations near where they live.
Here’s just some of the reasons so many folks like you are objecting to the 7-Eleven’s proposal, and what might happen if it goes through. In your own words, you can address some of these concerns in your objection if they apply to you. e.g.: I strongly object to the license application of this location as it would…
-
hurt our community.
-
put unacceptable risks on our safety.
-
I live within (DISTANCE/WALKING TIME?) of this convenience store.
-
This store is (DISTANCE/WALKING TIME?) from (SCHOOL? PARK? DAYCARE? ETC.?)
-
A gas bar is also located at this location, further endangering our community as alcohol sales will encourage impaired driving.
-
…it makes neighbourhood and this store less safe for clerks and families with children.
-
…encourage and lead to underage drinking.
-
…allow our community’s safety to be used as a political football by the Ford government.
-

-
This store is (DISTANCE/WALKING TIME?) from (SCHOOL? PARK? DAYCARE? ETC.?)

-
There are already (NUMBER?) or responsible, locally owned food and drink establishments close to this location. They’re trying to recover from the pandemic. Now they may have to compete with a multinational chain that will further weaken them.
-
Children visit this store to buy snacks or pop. Are they expected to share this space with a bar and dodge people drinking alcohol?
-
Convenience stores are already a magnet for crime, robbery, assault and loitering. Adding alcohol to the mix will make these risks worse.
-
While this is an on-site consumption application, does that mean this store will be able to sell take-out alcohol like restaurants are now?
-
Please put the safety of our community, workers, children and road users first and reject this application.
NOTE: THE DEADINE TO OBJECT IS MARCH 11. TAKE ACTION NOW!
Also, share your concern on Facebook and Instagram. Encourage others to take action too!
- Draw attention to your neighbourhood situation (e.g. applicant 7-Eleven is near <NAME OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL> etc.)
- Community safety is at risk; These 7-Eleven corporate convenience stores are almost all located near schools; Low-wage untrained clerks are being put in danger;
